The Robotic Additive Manufacturing Lab is a new national facility dedicated to advanced large-scale metal 3D printing, with a focus on the construction sector.

We have recently secured significant UK research council and industry funding to develop this facility and kickstart research to advance 3D printing techniques, applications and automation, within the construction industry. The research undertaken will help to tackle the longstanding innovation, productivity and sustainability challenges in this nationally important sector.

The facility will include state-of-the-art large-scale metal 3D printing equipment (wire and arc additive manufacturing, WAAM), computer vision and machine learning systems, processing equipment and logistics support. The Robotic Additive Manufacturing Lab is supported by leading architectural, engineering, manufacturing and computing industry partners, along with national and international academic collaborators.

We are currently recruiting PhD candidates to use the facility when it is operational in 2023 and transform 3D printing, automation and the construction industry. Get in touch if you would like to get involved.
