Through the development of biofidelic finite element model, we aim to conclusively determine the part that the socket and prosthesis play in deteriorating bone health in above-knee amputees. The model contains hard and soft tissue based on the lower-body MRI scans of a single subject who lives with one above-knee and one through-knee amputation. Additionally, the subject’s ischial containment socket is included in the model. Experimentally obtained loading conditions using the Bilateral Amputee musculoskeletal model are applied in FE to understand the mechanical effect of loading through a socket and the possible implications on amputee bone health.
