Your personal development
There are a wide range of personal development opportunities for students at Imperial. Some will take you outside of your academic field, others will enhance your skills and help prepare you for the world of work or further study. In some cases, you will get recognition on your final transcript.
Personal Development 1
Centre for Academic English
The Centre for Academic English has an experienced team that specialises in STEMM communication. Whether you are native or non-native English speaker, undergraduate or postgraduate, the Centre has a range of programmes to support your academic writing skills.
The Centre runs courses, workshops and one-to-one consultations focusing on:
• Academic communication
• Course requirements and assignments
• External engagement
• Research and impact
The Imperial Award gives you the opportunity to record and reflect upon your co-curricular and extra-curricular activities over the course of your time here. Working towards the Imperial Award involves thinking about how your activities have helped you develop skills in areas that include teamwork, self-awareness and critical thinking. You will work closely with your Personal Tutor or mentor to write up your reflections and successes. The Award will be recorded on your degree transcript.
Imperial Horizons is a programme for undergraduate students offering a wide range of modules to stimulate your personal, professional and intellectual growth. Horizons focuses on three fields of study:
• Change Makers
• Humanities & Social Sciences
The modules are also available as an i-Explore option, so you can take a module as part of your degree and the majority of departments will allow you to take a module for degree credit.
