About Me

My name is Elena and I am a student in EEE. I am studying an MEng Electrical and Electronic Engineering. I am in dance and music clubs, and I love robotics. I was diagnosed with dyslexia and dyspraxia when I was at school and it has really helped me to understand my strenghts and how to study.

Elena is part of the Imperial Inclusive Personae project, these are not real students but are designed to represent the diverse nature of the Imperial community.

My Role Model - Maggie Aderin-Pocock

I was diagnosed with dyslexia and dyspraxia when I was at school and I was really worried that this would make it harder for me to get into a science course. I have always loved learning how things work and how systems connect together so this is what I wanted to study.

I used to watch the Sky and Night with my grandmother and I was really struck by the enthusiasm of Maggie when she was presenting, then I learned that she is dyslexic too and that she considers it a super-power. Dr. Maggie Aderin-Pocock is a celebrated space scientist and science communicator. She inspires me deeply. Despite facing challenges such as dyslexia, she has become a leading figure in astronomy and STEMM outreach. Her passion for making science accessible, especially to young people and underrepresented groups, is vital to help people from those groups feel they have a place in STEMM. Her story shows that perseverance and enthusiasm can break down barriers in science. I am not sure what my super-power is yet but I hope to bring Maggie's level of enthusiasm to everything I do.
