Assessing the science and advancing regulatory and policy responses to ultra-processed foods
This conference will examine the latest scientific evidence on ultra-processed foods (UPFs) and explore the scope for effective, evidence-based regulatory and policy responses to their harmful impacts.
The event is jointly organised by the Centre for Health Economics & Policy Innovation at Imperial Business School, the Imperial School of Public Health, and the Imperial Policy Forum.
Building on Imperial’s 2024 conference on the case for government action on UPFs, this year’s forum will focus on progress towards a more robust, science-based policy agenda. As governments worldwide intensify efforts to address the growing dominance of UPFs in diets, high-quality research is increasingly central to shaping policies that are both effective and sustainable.
Momentum for action in the UK has continued since last year’s event, including calls for regulation in the House of Lords report on food, diet and obesity, and the ongoing House of Commons inquiry into food and weight management. This conference is intended to inform these debates by bringing together emerging evidence and international policy experience.
The Ultra-processed Food Policy Forum will showcase policy approaches from across the globe, providing policymakers, researchers and civil society with comparative insights and practical lessons for future action.
Please note: When registering, participants will be asked to indicate whether they wish to attend in person. Due to strict venue capacity limits and exceptionally high levels of interest, in-person places will be allocated by the organising committee. Those not allocated an in-person place will be able to attend remotely via livestream. We appreciate your understanding as we manage attendance in line with space constraints and demand.
