AIM, standing for Asynchronous Interactive Media is a joint educational tech research and development project from Imperial’s Interdisciplinary EdTech Lab and Digital Media Lab.
AIM delivers a framework for designing, deploying, and evaluating interactive 3D multimedia in existing LMSs (Learning Management System) and VLEs (Virtual Learning Environments). This can be done cost effectively and within the constraints of remote learning.
Aim trailer
Whilst virtual reality in education can help enhance or transform learning experiences, it is heavily linked to in person, or classroom learning, due to the need for specialised hardware. With the ability to integrate 3D multimedia into online learning experiences, however, students who cannot come to campus can also access these experiences. As such, the AIM project opens a door that could remove boundaries posed by the need for or reliance on specialised spaces and hardware.
