In collaboration with the central Safety Team, the Property Division's Health and Safety team work to ensure that the facilities, buildings, and activities across our campuses are safe for our entire community.
Some of our key areas of work include:
- Providing advice and guidance to departments, contractors and colleagues on health and safety legislation and compliance, as well as how to identify potential hazards and implement controls to mitigate them.
- Investigating incidents, identifying root causes and ensuring appropriate corrections are made.
- Managing access to high-risk or restricted areas through clear and controlled permit processes.

Accidents and near misses
Reporting an accident
All staff, students and visitors have a responsibility to take reasonable care of your own health and safety on our campuses. You must also take reasonable care not to put other people at risk by what you do or don't do.
If you are involved in or cause an accident or incident during the course of your work or studies, you must report it via Imperial's CoreStream system. It will then be investigated and measures may be put in place to prevent it happening again.
Reporting a near miss
You could find yourself involved in an incident, such as a slip or trip, which doesn't result in an injury but potentially could have. This is deemed a ‘near miss’. This also includes building defects which may cause injury in the future.
You're encouraged to report these via CoreStream; prompt action may prevent a more serious accident happening in the future.
