As part of the South Kensington Redevelopment programme, the Sherfield Building, including Levels 3, 4 and 5 were transformed in the Summer of 2025 to create new student spaces.

This work guided by Imperial’s Great Environment vision, transformed the Sherfield Building at South Kensington, helping us to meet the evolving needs of students, staff, and the wider community, while reinforcing our commitment to creating a sustainable, inclusive, and innovative environment.

The new spaces benefit from:

  • Level 3: three new shallow raked lecture theatres, each accommodating approximately 130 students and equipped with improved study and break-out spaces.
  • Level 4: dedicated student space with self-cook facilities, social and study spaces.
  • Level 5: modernised space housing student services including Careers, the Student Hub, Student Counselling, Student Support and the Disability Advisory Service.

You can view more pictures of these spaces on our Asset Library.

The Sherfield Building works also encompass the redevelopment of Imperial’s Great Hall, a project which will see the space futureproofed to provide world-class teaching and learning in the years to come. Detailed information about this project can be found on our project webpage.
