UCAS interview schedule

Online UCAS Interview Days run from November to February. You will have been allocated a specific date and time for your interview.

You will all be invited to join a one-hour, live online Q&A session before your interview.

The first 30 mins will be with the UG Admissions Tutor, who can provide details on course structure, placements, study opportunities and the admissions process.

After this section, you can ask questions of current undergraduate students about their experiences in the department and more widely at the college.

Joining the live Q&A sessions

To join the live Question & Answer webinar with our UG Admissions Tutor and current undergraduates, please click on the link in the e-mail invitation. It will be a Microsoft Teams Live Event and can be run through your web browser (there is no need to download and install Microsoft Teams to access this). We recommend using Chrome or Microsoft Edge browsers.

Admissions process

The first section of our Applying to us webpage, contains lots of up-to-date information about the admissions process, interviews and what to expect at each stage.

Note for your interview: Please do not login via the Teams app using your school login, as this may disable your camera.Open Day Chemistry Talk Sep 2025

Our Facilities, Our Community

Come and visit our Chemunity pages - created through one of our Student Shapers-funded staff-student partnerships. It's full of content and videos created by our undergraduates and staff, including interviews, advice on the transition to university, and study advice!

You can also find lots of staff and student videos on the life in our community page.

Take a virtual tour of campus and discover the facilities available to our community on our virtual tour website.

The Department of Chemistry operates across two campuses - South Kensington and the Molecular Sciences Research Hub (MSRH) in White City.

Our teaching hub at South Kensington provides a dedicated space for teaching and learning, for private study, quiet revision, group-work, with wonderful community spaces for chemistry students.

There are also many large, flexible study spaces on higher floors, for use by students from across our faculty.

Virtual tour

You can now take a fantastic virtual tour (released Oct 2023) around our teaching hub on our South Kensington campus.

State of the art facilities

The MSRH is a £170 million research facility for Chemistry staff and students, and collaborators from across the college and industry. It was designed to support our vision for chemistry, providing:

  • state of the art facilities (e.g. The Agilent Measurement Suite, ROAR, NMR facility, solar cell fabrication lab, clean room)
  • flexible open-plan laboratories (encouraging collaboration and discussion)
  • office, computer and social spaces for staff, postgraduate and undergraduate students
  • infrastructure needed to realise the potential for major advances in the chemical and molecular sciences.

In year 3, BSc students complete their research project at the MSRH, and lectures, workshops and advanced labs at South Kensington. Research projects in Chemical Education may take place at South Kensington.

MSci students spend their entire final year at the MSRH, including all lectures, workshops and a their research project.

Find out more about research activities in the Department of Chemistry.

Imperial Horizons - A broader learning experience

An introduction to the Horizons programme for undergraduates at Imperial College London.

Imperial Horizons is the Centre for Languages, Culture & Communication's flagship programme for undergraduates to help stimulate your personal, professional and intellectual growth.

First year students can take one of 10 languages at a range of levels, for degree-credit (two-terms). In year 2, you would have choice from across the whole Horizon's module offering (both one and two-term options), plus modules offered by the Business School, through the BPES programme.

In your 3rd Year, you will take an Horizons module, or another non-Chemistry module, as part of the I-Explore programme. Find out more on the I-Explore website.

Presentation slides

A presentation introducing Imperial Horizons to First year students is given at the start of each academic year. Slides (PDF) of the most recent presentations are available below:

Accommodation

There are many options for accommodation in your first year, be it our halls of residence, private halls of residence, or private accommodation, and some students decide to live at home.

There is an interactive guide to your accommodation options, and lots of useful information, including hall locations, room rates, hall facilities, and our accommodation guarantee, on the student accommodation website.

The Accommodation team at the Student Hub, also provide advice on private accommodation for returning students, becoming a hall senior, and assist students with a contract checking service, and recommended landlords via Imperial Home Solutions.

Student Finance

The Imperial Bursary, is the most generous bursary in the UK. If you’re a Home undergraduate student and your household income remains below £70,000, you automatically qualify for the Imperial Bursary every year.

This graph shows the combined totals available to Home students per year (Imperial Bursary plus Government Maintenance Loan), relative to the average student cost of living (UG student survey 2024).

You can also search for Scholarship opportunities with our Scholarships search system.

For the 25/26 academic year, the Department of Chemistry is offering the Chemistry Liversidge Scholarship, an annual scholarship of £2500, to two Home students. There is no application to this scholarship - all eligible candidates will be entered for selection and successful candidates will be notified on Thursday 31 July 2025.

There is information about the cost of living in London on the Managing your Money webpage.

Another site the Student Finance team recommend is Blackbullion.com which has useful resources on student finance calculators and budgeting to help students prepare for university finances.
