Could you tell us a little about yourself and about your studies before coming to Imperial?

I was on the Physics BSc degree at Warwick before coming to Imperial.  I'd done some internships as a developer in the technology teams in asset management, over previous summers.  I'm from Bulgaria and have studied in the UK for the past 10 years.

What attracted you about the MSc in AI?

The MSc in AI particularly attracted me because of the range of modules which were available to take, and at the same time the opportunity it gives you to specialise.  Also, it is a specialist MSc degree which is not offered by many universities, despite the growth of AI.

What are you enjoying the most?

What I like the most, is that the MSc AI cohort is a size which allows you to get to know people very well, and people are from diverse backgrounds.  Everyone is interested in similar things as you, which is very motivating.  There is a lot of group work in some modules so you get to collaborate with people on interesting problems.  And the lecturers are very good at relating their research and the module which they are teaching to the real world, which is really helpful as it gives you a perspective on what you can do after your degree!

What are you finding more challenging?

Coming from Physics, I find that having many modules with coursework is, at times, challenging.  However, the up side to this is that it does relieve some pressure from the exams.

What do you do in your spare time?

In my spare time, I like to read or listen to podcasts which I find relaxing.  I also enjoy playing tennis and I cycle regularly into university.  During the holidays, I try to go to the mountains to do some winter mountaineering which is my favourite sport.

Do you have any advice for prospective students?

AI is a such an interesting topic which is present everywhere and is shaping the world, so make sure that you read as much as you can about it and what you can do with it.  Spend some time exploring the modules which you'd like to take: it's worth the effort when you are deciding what to do in the future!
