We look forward to welcoming you to the department of computing in October.

As an offer holder we thought you might like to connect with one of our PhD buddies to get a snapshot of what to expect if/when you arrive in London.

Our PhD buddies  will be very happy to answer any questions you might have about life as a PhD student, supervisor relations, time management of your research and any other issues that an existing PhD student can share with you.

For specific queries about your offer and start of term arrangements please get in touch with Amani via email at aoeaoe@ic.ac.uk

We hope to see you soon.

Borja Gonzalez Leon

I work on deep reinforcement learning and formal methods. I am from Spain although I lived in Italy for a while before moving to the UK.

If you'd like to find good food in London once the situation goes back to normal, I can be a food buddy as well!

Amber Gorzynski

I work on compiler testing in the Multicore Programming Group. I think compilers are programming languages are super nifty, and I love learning about them 🙂 Somewhat unusually, I do not have an extensive background in computing: my undergrad was in Econometrics, and I worked in industry for 6 years before realising that I just wanted to spend all day messing around with programming languages. It has been a bit of a lifestyle shock to return to student life. I am very happy to chat with anyone who is adjusting!

I am from the UK and have been in London for around 10 years. I live in Dalston with my two adorable cats, Filbert and Cutlet. Email me for more cat pics (or to talk PhD- or London-matters)

Miriam

I am a final year PhD student and I work on Algorithmic Game Theory. I have a background in Economics and Computer Science. In my free time, I like to play badminton and squash, and listen to music from the late 70s to the 90s. Many of the insights you gain during your PhD are useful to know right from the start, so I’m happy to answer any questions that become more relevant as your PhD progresses!
