“The importance of leadership in a systems approach to infrastructure implementation – an insight from military mission command”

It is becoming clearer than ever that success in delivering infrastructure programme is determined by an understanding and application of systems thinking.  It is axiomatic that this requires effective leadership and recent examples such as Crossrail, Palace of Westminster Restoration & Renewal and EWR can provide case study value.  Leadership is also a central factor in military operations and the comparative example of military mission command can also provide additional insight and lessons for the infrastructure sector.  This presentation seeks to highlight current infrastructure strengths and then to explore where these are reinforced or where they can be complemented by current military doctrine.
