This course looks at interpersonal conflicts in a research environment. Through reflection, discussion, and analysis of conflict scenarios, participants will learn how to break down a conflict to better understand the situation and how to better manage them.

The course also highlights how different individuals’ perceptions can influence the way a conflict is managed. Participants will learn different ways to manage a conflict by using the Thomas-Kilmann Conflict Mode Instrument (TKI) to see how effective each approach is. By the end of the session, participants will be better equipped to understand and manage conflicts constructively in both their personal and professional lives.

Please note that this course is intended for situations where you are experiencing conflict. If you are interested in preventing conflicts, we recommend attending Negotiation for your Doctorate and Beyond and Understanding and Developing Assertiveness.

This course is open to Research Degree Students, MRes, Postdocs, Research Fellows.
