Computing Third Year (MEng) accordion
Credit
| Module Title | Core/Elective | Term | ECTS |
|---|---|---|---|
| I-Explore | Compulsory | 1 and/or 2 | 5 |
| Industrial Placement (First part) | Core | 3 | 15 |
| Seven or Eight Elective modules | Elective | 1 or 2 | 40 |
In total there are 60 ECTS in Year 3, but the Industrial Placement does not contribute to the final degree classification.
With the exception of the Industrial Placement, each module contributes its relative ECTS weight towards the year total.
Taught modules in Computing are generally 5 ECTS each, but 60021 (Year 3 Software Engineering Group Project) is worth 10 ECTS.
Coursework
Each non-project module has associated coursework. The weighting is normally 20%, although for some more practical modules the weighting is 30%. The rest is assessed by written examination.
A number of modules have separate assessment criteria, such as 60003 (Communicating Computer Science in Schools), 60033 (Computing Research Collective) and 60021 (Year 3 Software Engineering Group Project).
Progression Requirements
In order to progress to the fourth year you must pass all modules in Year 3 (including I-Explore). The pass mark for all Year 3 modules is 40%.
In addition, to qualify for the fourth year you must obtain an Industrial placement. Students who fail to achieve this will normally be required to transfer to the BEng degree and complete an individual project.
