ABSTRACT
The Betfair Exchange is the world's biggest betting Exchange, taking millions of pounds in bets every day. The technology stack underneath has to handle billions of requests a day, pass many terabytes of data around the system and do it all with sub second latency. So, what is a betting Exchange? Why does it present interesting technological challenges? What is it like working on a technology stack built up over 20 years, that is now a core part of a FTSE 100 business? And what does a software developer working on the Betfair Exchange actually do day to day?
