On Monday 30th September 2013, Mercedes Gimeno-Segovia took part in Kingsbury High School’s STEM Day.

Mercedes is a Research Postgraduate in the Physics Department at Imperial College London. Her research focuses on Quantum Computation; a new paradigm of computation that exploits the non-classical features of quantum systems. She was invited to attend Kingsbury High School’s STEM Day to speak to students about her research and her career path to date.

At the event, around 230 AS and A level science students met a number of scientists, science educators, science students and admissions tutors.  The students had the chance to speak to the scientists and ask them about their work in science. In addition, the students were able to ask admissions tutors about applying to university to study a STEM subject.

Following the event, the organiser, David Cumbers, said: “The event exceeded our expectations, the conversations and questions generated were of a very high quality, and our students gained a lot from hearing about real life science from real live scientists.”
