The Programme
Offering A-Level Maths and Science Workshops:
- 5 Workshops (2 Saturdays, 2 Sundays and a Tuesday during half term 2014)
- Mentored personal study sessions in STEM related subjects – Maths plus Physics / Chemistry /Biology and Personal Effectiveness
- Practical hands-on laboratory investigations
- Personal Effectiveness – to help students prepare for University admissions, effective learning participation at Degree level and in the workplace
Workshops will be delivered at Imperial College London’s South Kensington campus
Workshops will be delivered in an interactive and participatory manner, and will be based on common A Level curriculum topics. Some sessions will be led by academic leaders, others will be based on problem-based learning and textbook exercises supported by undergraduate peer-group mentors. The mentors will also provide tutoring on homework or other revision exercises. Practical application of science and maths learning will be experimented with in a lab environment.
Training sessions on Personal Effectiveness are designed to help students improve learning styles, time management, self-confidence, communication and presentation skills, interview skills, university applications. STEM careers advice and guidance will also be provided.
Students must be studying at least three A Levels including two or more of the following subjects: Maths (compulsory), Physics, Biology, Chemistry.
This event is fully funded by Imperial College London G&T Access Fund for high achieving eligible students.
