On 13th and 14th October 2012, Dr Simon Foster from Imperial College London, took part in the British Science Association Space Day.

Dr Foster helped organise the British Science Associations (BSA) Space day, which was held at the Drink, Shop and Do café in London’s Kings cross. The aim of the Space Day was to encourage members of the public to engage with science and to advance their understanding of space science.

Dr Foster is the Outreach Officer for the Physics department at Imperial College London. He is a qualified rocket scientist and his research focuses on Solar-terrestrial Physics, specialising in solar variability and climate change.

Dr Foster carried out various activities on the day, including talks about solar physics, astronomy and space research and various hands on workshops which allowed the public to get involved. Simon showed the public pieces of the Cluster satellite that was destroyed in the maiden launch of the European Space Agencies (ESA) Ariane 5 rocket, giving a stark visual reminder of the dangers of space flight.
