Abstract
This is a disruptive time. Financial instability rocking the foundations of some of the oldest nation states. Global businesses struggling to adapted in an ever more agile markets, and the domino effect of political turbulence destabilising regions of the world by reverberating far beyond country boundaries. Within this context we have witnessed the emergence of new digital technologies driving change across the world. Change to meet the need for improved, more efficient and new services that radically change the way we work, communicate, think and live – especially in dense city environments. Change that assists us to navigate through the disruption around us while also perpetuating further innovation. As an adviser to the Mayor of London from 2008 to 2012 on transport, environment and digital, I shall discuss the implications of the challenges and change we experienced and delivered in London, and why I believe we are at a point of immense opportunity for global cities.
