Abstract

This seminar provides practical guidance for initiating conversations around climate change. Tammy Mayer will provide a model for dialogues that influence and engage people in supporting climate solutions. This model is easy to implement and based on psychological research on climate communications. The seminar will cover the reasons why it is important to talk about climate change in the context of solutions, and why the psychology of communications is important. This work is inspired in part by the advice of climate scientist, Katharine Hayhoe, who wrote the groundbreaking book, Saving Us.

About the speaker:

Tammy brings her passion for community-building and resolving climate change forward to One Climate Action, an organization that offers training for people ready to make an impact on climate change. One Climate Action’s training programs make it easy to take climate actions, be that leading a delicate conversation with a friend, persuading upper management to take action, or learning to get involved politically.

The programme aims to reduce climate anxiety and guilt by focusing on easy-to-access and tailor-made solutions. Tammy has been a teacher and trainer for over ten years and has been involved in nonprofit community development for over fifteen. Her background includes director of programs for a policy advocacy nonprofit, strategic communications manager for a renewable energy public policy network, finance manager for a housing nonprofit, and university professor teaching nonprofit strategic planning and management.
