Starting from the Nordheim equation for bosons, I will motivate and present some recent results on a Boltzmann equation for cubic interactions. The approximation by a kinetic wave equation will then be shown to be very natural and extremely useful. Classical tools and arguments from the wave turbulence theory will be presented and used to explain our results.
