Founded: The team was founded in 2000, building IC01 which first competed in 2001 coming 1st in Class 2.

Success: The next car built IC02 took part in the 2004 and 2005 editions of the competition coming 1st in Class 2 and 17th in Class 1 respectively

Battery: In 2010 and 2011 the team’s aims was reliability and performance, with the power coming from 504 cells packaged in bespoke battery modules designed and manufactured by the team. IFR was one of the first teams at the time making this switch from internal combustion to electric vehicle.

Design success: The team entered a long period of stable iteration of its designs, developing a composite monocoque, new battery pack and in-wheel hub motors, as well as further establishing itself within the university.

COVID-19: The team endured a challenging period through COVID, with no access to facilities critical to completing the battery pack. Nevertheless, this period was used to further iterate designs, and a new chassis was fully outsourced.

Current team: The current team are rebuilding the car completely, with a switch back to internal combustion. We aim for a full Formula Student Class entry in time for our 25th anniversary.
