We are developing a novel method which takes a whole systems approach to simulate energy transitions towards a low carbon world. Each sector is this model is characterised in a way that is appropriate for that specific sector. The sectors can be broken down into demand, conversion and supply;

  • Energy demand. Demand sectors are where energy is consumed provide an end-use service or product. They can include transport, industrial, agriculture and building sectors.
  • Energy supply. These are the sectors where energy is sourced from, and can include non-renewable sources (coal, gas, and oil), nuclear and renewable sources (solar, wind etc.)
  • Energy conversion. These sectors are where energy is transformed from one form to another prior to final end-use. In MUSE-Global they include the electricity sector and refineries and processing.
