With drug resistance having now been observed against all the current front line malaria drugs, it is vital that new fundamental discoveries in malaria biology are adequately translated into the development of new medicines to tackle resistant disease. We aim to develop and apply chemistry-led approaches to interrogate parasite biology and, in the process, discover new (or further validate existing) malaria drug targets. We further seek to facilitate the translation of such approaches, with the ultimate aim of contributing to new malaria drug discovery. As such, our work encompasses aspects of chemical biology, synthetic organic chemistry, peptide and protein chemistry, chemical proteomics and medicinal chemistry.
