Royal Academy of Engineering recognises Imperial graduate for translating sensing research into commercially successful technology.
Dr Liucheng Guo, a former PhD student from Imperial College London’s Departments of Computing and Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE), has been awarded a 2026 Princess Royal Silver Medal by the Royal Academy of Engineering. Presented by HRH The Princess Royal, this medal is awarded annually to up to four engineers, with only three recipients selected in 2026.
The medal recognises outstanding engineering innovation with proven commercial impact. Dr Guo, Co-founder and Chief Technical Officer of deep-tech company TG0, was honoured for pioneering a first-of-its-kind ‘AI for Sensing’ approach and successfully translating his research into commercial products across robotics, automotive, healthcare and consumer electronics.
Commenting on the achievement, alumnus Dr Guo said: "It is a tremendous honour to receive the Princess Royal Silver Medal. My time at Imperial, particularly in Professor Luk’s research group, provided the technical foundations in custom computing, signal processing and intelligent systems, while inspiring me to translate knowledge into technologies that create real-world impact. Today, through TG0, I am proud to be collaborating with Department of Computing on an Innovate UK project, continuing to bridge academic excellence with commercial innovation."
Dr Guo developed intelligent sensing technology that enables electronic devices to respond more naturally to human interaction. By combining advanced sensing materials with artificial intelligence, TG0’s technology gives machines a more human-like sense of touch, allowing products to understand pressure, location, direction and movement.

Traditional electronic products often rely on separate buttons, sensors and components to detect user input. TG0’s patented technology replaces these individual parts with intelligent touch-sensitive materials embedded with lightweight edge AI, creating simpler, lower cost and more sustainable designs.
TG0 has received support through Innovate UK and the European Innovation Council, and its technologies are now being adopted across sectors including robotics, automotive, healthcare and consumer electronics. The company has been recognised as one of Deloitte UK’s Fast50 fastest-growing technology companies and received the GBx Best in British Tech Award for Deep Tech Innovation. In 2025, Dr Guo was invited to 10 Downing Street to meet the Prime Minister after TG0 was selected as one of Tech Nation's Future Fifty companies, recognising the UK’s most promising scale-ups.
