Energy

The UK Research Centre in NDE (RCNDE) has many industrial energy members in the energy sector: RWE npower, E-ON, EDF, Alstom, Rolls-Royce, Shell, BP, Petrobras. Much of our research has applications in this area and we have active links with most of these companies.

Aerospace Image

Aerospace

The group has a great deal of experience in working with the aerospace industry. A large field of interest to the aerospace industry is the inspection of engine components. We have a variety of projects with Rolls-Royce on improved inspection of engine components. Particular concerns are the rapid, reliable inspection of turbine blades and in-situ inspection of engines.

Health Image

Health

Ultrasound is widely employed in medical diagnostics because it is health real-time, safe and relatively inexpensive. The activity of the group ranges from ultrasound imaging to the development of devices for guided intervention and implant monitoring. A spin-out company, Integration Diagnostics Ltd, now commercializes a device to test dental implants.

Infrastructure Image

Infrastructure

We have extensive interests in the inspection and health monitoring infrastructure of infrastructure. Our long range guided wave technology is specifically aimed at the inspection of large structures and has found wide application. Many industrial members of RCNDE, particularly in the oil and gas, power and nuclear sectors are interested in ensuring the integrity of large structures over extended periods and we expect activity in this area to increase.
