Workstation

Sitting correctly at your workstation

Incorrect posture at a workstation can cause pain in your back, neck, shoulders, wrists, fingers and arms. The picture below shows how you should sit when working at a laptop or a regular monitor.

Sitting correctly at your workstation

Stretches and exercises

Stretches and exercises

This is the single most important piece of ergonomic advice we can offer, and the most ignored. It is very important to vary work tasks regularly during the working day. Try standing up for certain tasks and moving away from the computer for periods of time of about 3 to 4 minutes whenever possible. This will help improve your posture. Break up your sedentary work with small-breaks and use the opportunity to engage in movement, stretching and changes to body position. During your breaks you may find it helpful to do the following stretches and exercises, depending on how you feel.

Workstation excercises

Height adjustable desks

Individuals who need to change their position regularly may benefit from a height adjustable desk. They are ideal for those with back pain and other musculoskeletal issues, allowing one to vary position from sitting to standing throughout the day with ease. Available with the options of electric or manual adjustment. Posturite offer a competitive price and is available on the College iProcurement ordering system.
