"The Great Service programme is a massive contrast to any other implementation that I have experienced at Imperial. Not only the considerations for accessibility itself, but also the way the demos have been presented – thoroughly appreciated. Clear, precise and reassuring."– Bouquette Kabatepe, Digital Accessibility Officer
What we have done so far
The Great Service programme has engaged with a broad range of groups and individuals across Imperial. Since March 2025, our Change Management team and the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion centre have been working to ensure that accessibility requirements and related considerations are met within the new system. This work has involved staff across departments and members of the Able and Neurodiversity Champion Staff Networks.
Workshops began in May 2025, offering accessibility users an opportunity to gain insight into what the software changes may be, understand the differences and benefits of the new system and ask the programme team any questions. The aim of these sessions was to help users prepare ahead of time, helping to level the playing field for the upcoming changes.
Users were invited to participate in demonstrations, with training materials provided, and then interact with our starter configuration system with a first look at accessibility features and digital assistant tools. From this early engagement, the programme has been able to gather invaluable feedback from the Imperial community to contribute to our design phase.
More recently, we have worked with an accessibility working group made up of ABLE members alongside Imperial’s branding team to identify a colour combination for Atlas’ user interface to maximise accessibility.
The accessibility working group also provided feedback on the ClickLearn tool and supporting materials that will be used for Atlas training. This resulted in additional adaptions to colour and margins to enhance the accessibility.
What we will be doing in the future
The next step is to carry out testing in the system. Working with ICT’s Digital Accessibility Officer, we have planned two strands of testing:
- Internal accessibility user testing
- External digital accessibility testing
Internal accessibility user testing is scheduled to take place in September 2026 and will focus on accessibility and usability. A group of volunteers from the ABLE network will be invited to take part in one of two testing days in September. They will be asked to evaluate a set of the likely most-common user journeys in Atlas.
External digital accessibility testing is scheduled to take place in Autumn 2026 and will be delivered by ICT's external testing provider. They will assess the same selection of the most-common user journeys against the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG).
Key resources
Oracle accessibility documents
Oracle provide the software that underpins Atlas. These are some of their out-of-the-box accessibility documents and policies:
Frequently asked questions
- Does Atlas meet accessibility guidelines for the UK?
- I’ve looked at the information on this page but I’m still not sure if Atlas will work for me. How can I find out more?
The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) are a set of recommendations developed by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) to make web content more accessible to people with disabilities. Imperial works to the Public Sector Bodies Accessibility Regulations 2018, which require web-based systems to meet the WCAG 2.2 AA compliance. Oracle Fusion Cloud, the platform that underpins Atlas meets this standard.
