Project Details:

I work on conformal field theory (CFT) with applications to quantum gravity and condensed matter physics. The connection to quantum gravity is via the holographic principle, which equates theories of quantum gravity like string theory to CFT in one less dimension. The connection to condensed matter physics is via continuous phase transitions, which are described by CFTs.

a) What do you enjoy most about working within the Department of Physics?

The large and vibrant Theoretical Physics group.

b) What skills or quailities do you think are most important for thriving as an independent researcher?

Finding a subfield that you master, but also keeping in touch with what is going on in the wider field.
