The last PGT virtual Open Day was held on the 15th December 2025 from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m.  More details about future Open Day sessions will be released here nearer to the time.

The Department of Physics has a vibrant taught graduate portfolio offering eight masters programmes spanning a wide range of topics. Approximately 200 masters students join us each year from around the world, with backgrounds in physics, mathematics, engineering and the other physical sciences.

A recording of the previous Open Day, held in December 2025, is available to watch below. It explores what the Department of Physics has to offer, focusing on programme content, thoughts and insights from course leaders and a Q&A session.

More information about the internal PGT Open Day from December 2025 can be viewed in these presentation slides: Physics Postgraduate Taught Open day December 2025- Imperial College London

Virtual PGT Departmental open day - 15 December 2025 at 10.00

Virtual Open Day for the Department of Physics, December 2025

The Department is offering the following programmes for 2025/2026 entry:

  • MSc Physics
  • MSc Physics with Extended Research (2 years)
  • MSc Physics with Quantum Dynamics
  • MSc Physics with Fusion and Plasma Physics
  • MSc Quantum Fields and Fundamental Forces
  • MSc Security and Resilience: Science and Technology
  • MSc and MRes in Optics and Photonics
  • MRes Machine Learning and Big Data
  • MRes Soft Electronic Materials

Through a combination of lectures, practical laboratories and individual research projects, students are bought to the cutting edge of research. Specialisms include cosmology, physics of light and materials, to the physics of the quantum realm, and down to the tiniest scales of particle physics.

Our programmes span all the way from blue skies research areas through to those with very direct application in industry, computing and the resilience of society.

The Virtual Open Day gave students the chance to:

  • learn more about the department, our master's programmes and their entry requirements;
  • meet our programme directors;
  • chat to teaching and support staff; and
  • ask questions live.
