The Student Support Fund is available for students who find themselves in financial hardship. In addition, departments may have further guidance and sources of support for students to explore.
The UKRI Policy Internships Scheme for 2026/27 is open. The scheme provides the opportunity for doctoral students funded by the Research Councils of UKRI to undertake a three-month placement at one of a selected group of highly influential policy organisations. During their internship, the student undertakes training and experience on a policy topic agreed with their host partner that is relevant to both parties. The intention of the scheme is to embed students in an environment where they can engage with the process of converting research outputs into policy. These internships equip students with transferable skills and training relevant to the future career paths that the student may choose.
Full details of how to apply, including links to the online application and guidance are available through the UKRI policy internships 2026 – UKRI webpages.
For students funded under the below training grants held by Professor Mary Ryan (Training Grant Holder), the Supporting Statement template should be completed and sent to the Research Strategy Team researchstrategy@imperial.ac.uk alongside an email showing permission to undertake the placement from the supervisor, in order to obtain the necessary signature from the training grant holder, by 12pm on 27 July 2026. Once it has been signed by the Training Grant holder it will be returned, and can be copied into the ‘Host organisation support’ question in the UKRI application form.

Any queries relating to this opportunity should be directed to the policyinternships@ukri.org or the relevant host partner. Any queries regarding the system or the submission of applications through the Funding Service should be directed to support@funding-service.ukri.org
