As part of our ongoing commitment to encouraging Active Travel we want your input on how we can improve the uptake and cycling infrastructure across our campuses. Whether you're looking to incorporate cycling into your daily commute but are unsure where to begin, or you’re a seasoned cyclist, your perspective is invaluable.

We will be launching our Active Travel consultation on Monday 4 December running through to Friday 22 December .

As outlined in our Sustainability and Sport, and Physical Activity Strategies, our aim is to assess current infrastructure, identify barriers faced by the community in choosing cycling, and address challenges like lack of facilities or cycling confidence.

We want to ensure our campus environments not only accommodate but actively encourages cycling as a sustainable and efficient mode of transportation.

In this consultation, we will ask for your view on:

  • Current cycling experience: Share your experiences and observations regarding cycling on campus, including any pinch points or safety concerns you have encountered.
  • Barriers to cycling: Identify specific obstacles that deter you from cycling to work, such as the lack of changing facilities, storage options, confidence issues in urban cycling, or difficulties accessing bikes.
  • Suggestions for improvement: Provide your thoughts on how we can enhance the campus cycling infrastructure and address the identified barriers. Your ideas will play a crucial role in shaping future initiatives.

Your participation in this consultation will be instrumental in helping us create positive changes that will benefit the entire campus community.

New safety measures at South Kensington

It is now no longer possible to use the cycle lane alongside the Imperial College Road/Exhibition Road exit barrier while it is down. Instead, we request all two-wheeled traffic to either exit via the barrier or, if preferred, dismount and push their bikes along the pavement exit.

Please note that this change is a pilot scheme, introduced urgently to enhance safety. We consider it a temporary measure until we can implement a more secure exit option for two-wheeled riders. If you have any suggestions or feedback, do feel free to contact us at car.park@imperial.ac.uk.
