When you book an event or appointment hosted by the Careers Service, you'll receive a confirmation email with the event details – and a reminder email the day before too. Please remember to add these details to your calendar.

We provide a variety of one to one appointments plus our regular series of seminars, workshops, and other events on campus and via MS Teams (Office 365).

Before you make an appointment we strongly recommend that you make use of our online resources to make the most of the interaction. We offer a range of online material covering topics on planning your careerjobs and experienceapplications and intervews (including CVs, cover letters and interview support).

Access to the Careers Service

You will have full access to the Careers Service from the first day of your degree programme when you officially enrol. You will then be able to access JobsLive, book onto events, one to one appointments and search for job vacancies. You cannot access any of our services or events before this time.

Appointments

Careers Discussion (online)

A video/audio chat with a careers consultant using Office 365 MS-Teams. Our careers consultants offer you confidential, one to one advice and guidance on topics including your career options, finding and exploring opportunities of interest, further study routes, deciding on your next step, and help with applications including CVs, cover letters, interviews, online tests and assessment centres.

Duration: Up to 25 minutes

Restrictions: available to all students and alumni (up to three years from end of studies).

How to book: You can book from 07.00 one working day in advance of the appointment via JobsLive. We'll contact you via Office365 MS-Teams using your Imperial email address (or alternative if provided). Please use the booking notes to provide details of what you’d like to discuss.

Careers Discussion (South Kensington Campus)

In person one-to-one advice and guidance with a careers consultant for confidential advice and guidance on topics including your career options, finding and exploring opportunities of interest, further study routes, deciding on your next step, and help with applications including CVs, cover letters, interviews, online tests and assessment centres. This appointment is offered in person adhering to current College guidance on COVID-19.

Duration: Up to 25 minutes

Restrictions: available to all students and alumni (up to three years from end of studies).

Internship Discussion (online)

Discuss finding and applying to work experience opportunities including internships, placements and volunteering. Our Placement & Internship Advisors can provide advice on searching for opportunities, how to approach the applicaton process as well as guidance on speculative applications or programmes including the Alumni Mentoring Scheme, Work Shadowing, Professional Project Fund and/or SME Internships.

Careers Consultation (by referral)

An online (MS Teams)/or in person chat with a careers consultant. Our careers consultants can hold more detailed and in-depth conversations with students who require additional support or advice. The careers consultant will typically have specific knowledge or experience in the area of discussion.

Duration: Up to 40 minutes

Mock Interview (by referral)

Practice your interview technique and receive feedback on your performance from a careers consultant. These sessions allow you to specify the areas and/or questions that you would like to focus on and can be tailored to specific industries and roles as required.

Duration: 40 minutes

Restrictions: available to all students and alumni (up to three years from end of studies) on a referral basis from a Careers Service staff member. Limit of one mock interview per acadmic year.

How to book: Please email us directly to discuss your needs and arrange an appointment. We would strongly encourage you to make use of the Interviews section of our website prior to booking and/or to attend a relevant presentation or workshop to make the most of a mock interview.

Careers Consultation (Postdocs - online)

Explore any career related topic you wish to discuss including interview practice, preparing CVs and applications, working out careers ideas and strategy for achieving the next stage in your professional life.

Duration: 40 minutes

Restrictions: available to early stage research staff (typically up to five years from completion of PhD).

Terms and conditions:

  • Your JobsLive account may be suspended if you fail to attend a booked appointment without first contacting the Careers Service to cancel.
  • To ensure fair access you may only book one appointment per day and we limit you to three appointments of each type in a 90 day period.
  • Students who have registered with the Disability Advisory Service (DAS) may be eligible for a direct access to our 'Careers Consultation (by referral)' appointments. For further information please liaise with the DAS, email us or phone us on +44 (0)20 7594 8024.
  • Imperial College Business School students must make an appointment through the Business School Careers
  • We adhere to Imperial's Conference events policy.
