This course aims to examine the benefits of inclusive practice in research and innovation and how your identity can influence your viewpoint. Participants will identify how to build and expand the impact of their research or innovation, by including diverse audiences and perspectives in every stage. Identification of opportunities for inclusivity will make projects more impactful and increase the tangible contribution of their work to greater equity and social justice in society.

This course includes pre-course activities (~20 minutes) to complete before the live session; you will receive the credit by completing both the pre-course activities and engaging in the live session (120 minutes).

This course is open to Research Degree Students, MRes, Postdocs & Research Fellows.

Learning Outcomes


On completion of this course, you will be able to:

  • Examine your identity and the benefits of your unique perspective
  • Identify limitations inherent in a research process that lacks inclusivity
  • Assess how diverse and inclusive your research team are and the barriers to inclusivity
  • Plan concrete actions to make your team and project inclusive to deliver impact for society
