We recently interviewed Jake Stanton-Jones, a student at Imperial, and talked about his experience of Just Move sessions and Ethos gym. Read about his experience below.

We spoke with Jake at Ethos.

Tell us a bit about yourself and how you stay active.
Hi I'm Jake and I’m studying Human and Biological Robotics at Imperial. I mainly stay active by going to the gym at Ethos about three times a week for weight training, and by joining Just Move badminton sessions every Wednesday.

Do you have a favourite Just Move session, and what do you like about it?
I tried a few different activities in the beginning but quicky realised I wanted to do badminton, so having a free badminton court once every week for an hour is perfect. They also provide everything for badminton, so you don't need to bring anything, which is nice. Rackets, shuttlecocks, and nets are all provided. I really enjoy it.

How has your experience impacted your wellbeing and your university life?
I think it's helped greatly to improve my university experience. It’s been very nice to meet new people through the Just Move sessions. Everyone's quite social and having a nice break on a Wednesday is also very appreciated.

What would you say to someone who's considering attending Just Move sessions?
It is worth a go. It's free and you don't have to book anything. It is a great opportunity to try something new with nothing on the line, like money or time. There is no pressure and nothing riding on it, so it’s a great opportunity to give an interesting activity a try. I would suggest joining any free activity session you like.

How do the services at Ethos differ from other gyms you’ve been to?
I'd recommend it to everyone. It's good and high quality. In the past I went to a a popular local gym for a while, which was ten times the price of the gym at Ethos. At Ethos I'm getting the same equipment, the exact same machines and it’s for way lower a price, which is great.

What's your favourite memory or moment from Just Move sessions?
A couple of badminton games come to mind. I got partnered up with complete strangers for some games and ended up having a good laugh!

How has Just Move helped you connect with other people?
There’s no set teams for the sessions so you can play with strangers or you can bring friends to play with, which is a great way to connect with people that you may not usually come across during your studies. Usually during a session everyone is playing and if there's a free court, you can just go on it with whoever you like. The friend I usually play with brings his other friends to the sessions sometimes and it's a nice, easy way to meet new people.

What's coming up with Just Move that you're excited about?
I'm just always excited for badminton every Wednesday! It's a nice part of the week, as well as the gym of course.
