Our facilities
Explore our state-of-the-art Structures Testing Lab, equipped for advanced research on materials and structural performance under a wide range of conditions.
Our research spans fundamental and applied structural engineering and is supported by state-of-the-art computational tools and major investment in an advanced structural testing laboratory. This enables us to address challenges across the design, performance and long-term behaviour of structures.
In addition to work on new and improved structural forms and materials, a growing focus of our research is the response of structures to extreme and hazardous loading. This includes blast resistance, seismic behaviour, structural robustness and resilience. Our contributions in lifetime assessment, durability and long-term performance continue to expand, alongside research in structural biomechanics.
Our work combines experimental, computational and theoretical approaches and is supported by a wide range of funders from research councils, government bodies, and industry. This breadth of support reflects both the quality of our research and its relevance to real-world civil engineering challenges.
Our research activity covers areas including bridge engineering, composite construction, computational mechanics, concrete structures and durability, earthquake engineering, steel structures, structural dynamics, reliability and stability.
