Supporting women A-level and BTEC/OCR (or Scottish equivalent) students from low-income households who wish to study computer science or related engineering courses at UK universities.

Eligibility: a woman;

• currently studying computing at college or at least one A Level or Scottish Highers in science, technology, engineering, or maths
• have received an offer (conditional or unconditional) to study an eligible computer science or related engineering course at a university in the UK
• be resident in the UK and eligible to pay ‘home’ fee rates
• be enrolling at a UK university and commencing study at the start of the 2021-2022 academic year
• have been eligible for free school meals from the date you started your post-16 studies and/or have at least one parent or guardian in receipt of state benefits (not child benefit where this is the only benefit being received)

Award: £5,000 per year for up to four years

1. Have a conditional firm or unconditional offer of admission from the College to study an undergraduate course in the Department of Mathematics

The Kingsbury Scholarship is awarded to one outstanding candidate each year who has not undertaken undergraduate study before. Eligible candidates must agree one or more internship or placement working in a UK engineering industry, either before their start at Imperial, as part of their course or in two or more summer breaks.

To be eligible, candidates must have attained the conditions below:

• have an offer to study a 4-year MEng or MSci course in Imperial’s Faculty of Engineering (excluding MEng Design Engineering);
• be a Home/UK student who has been assessed for financial support through Student Finance England (SFE) (or equivalent funding authority), with a SFE verified household income of less than £60,000 per annum;
• agree to one of the industry placements or internships (listed in the ‘Working in industry’ section);
• Submit a statement explaining how and why you intend to seek employment in a UK engineering industry upon graduation.

For prospective students from low income households, and those who are under-represented in the engineering sector. The Lord Bhattacharyya HE Bursary Scheme aims to support the progression of A-level, BTEC and OCR students from eligible programme schools, academies, and colleges across the West Midlands who wish to study degree level engineering at a UK university.

The Presidential Scholarship for Black Students was established to improve access and opportunity for Black students at Imperial.

As part of the College's £5 million commitment to scholarships for minority and underrepresented students from the UK, the scholarship will support one Master’s and one undergraduate student with Home Fee status from each Faculty. The first recipients of the award will be selected in the academic year 2022. As part of this scholarship, wrap around support will be provided for the students including mentoring advice and guidance.

Visa has a scholarship programme that covers course fees up to a value of £9,200 per year, up to 4 years. The programme is designed to support students from under-represented and socially disadvantaged backgrounds to achieve their full potential.

There is a list of eligibility criteria, however the main ones are:

• The degree must be in a STEM field (Computer Science, Information Science, Cybersecurity, Engineering or Maths), or Business (HR, Finance, Marketing, Sales)
• From a Black, Asian or Minority Ethnic background.

This scholarship is awarded on the basis of academic merit and financial need.

To be considered for the World Scientific Scholarship you must:

• be a citizen of: Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand or Vietnam
• have received an offer of admission from the College to study an undergraduate course starting in October

Award: A £5,000 contribution towards maintenance costs

Eligible students who have received an offer of admission to study at the College will be contacted via email and asked to complete a World Scientific Scholarship application form in order to apply for the scholarship.

For exceptional penultimate year female students to support and encourage them to enter a field where women are traditionally underrepresented. 

Award: The scholarship winner receives a one-time stipend of £10,000, a Bain mentor and a possible offer for an Associate Consultant or Associate Consultant Intern role (varies by office).

The Generation Google Scholarship: for women in computer science was established to help aspiring computer scientists excel in technology and become leaders in the field. Scholarships will be awarded based on the strength of each candidate's impact on diversity, demonstrated leadership, and academic background.

To be eligible to apply, applicants must:

• Be currently enrolled as an undergraduate or graduate student at a university for the 2021-2022 academic year
• Intend to be enrolled in or accepted as a full-time student in a Bachelors, Masters, or PhD program at an accredited university in Europe, Middle East or Africa for the 2022-2023 academic year
• Be studying computer science, computer engineering, or a closely related technical field
• Demonstrate a strong academic record
• Exemplify leadership and demonstrate a passion for improving representation of underrepresented groups in computer science and technology

Award: Selected students will receive a 7,000 EUR award (or local equivalent) for the 2022-2023 academic year.

The Global Impact Scholarship is open to students who:

The Women in Technology Scholarship is open to students who:

For second year undergraduates. These Royal Academy of Engineering scholarships help ambitious and inspiring undergraduates in engineering and related disciplines, who want to become leadership role models for the next generation of engineers, to undertake an accelerated personal development programme.

To be eligible for an Engineering Leaders Scholarship, you:

• Must be completing an undergraduate degree at a UK Higher Education Institution
• Need to be studying engineering or a related discipline
• Will have completed at least one year (full-time equivalent) of your degree, and have at least two years full-time equivalent (including the current year) left until graduation
• Will usually be resident in the UK and eligible to pay UK home fees (you may be asked to provide evidence)

Award: £5,000 to be used over three years towards career personal development activities

Application for these awards is made within each department, in response to a notice distributed during each Spring Term by the Senior Tutor. Students are required to provide a brief statement as to why they feel they should qualify, based on their level of extra-curricular activity.

Each Department then provides two nominations to the OC Trust, and the names have to be ratified by the Trust Board. The awards are then made available at the commencement of the next Autumn Term, provided that the students concerned have satisfactorily registered for the next year’s study.

For undergraudate UK home students not in their final year of study

To be eligible, students should:

• Be registered at a UKESF partner university on an IET accredited (or on track to be accredited) BEng or MEng degree which contains a substantial amount of Electronics or Electronic Engineering
• Not hold any sponsorship/scholarship funded by a single commercial organisation
• Qualify as a UK student for your tuition fees, or be a British National or EU student who was resident in the UK prior to December 2020.
• Students beyond the first year must have achieved an overall average of at least 60% from their most recent end of year assessment (earlier end of year assessments do not count).

Award: An annual bursary of £1,000 per annum, paid summer work placements, a paid-for place at a residential UKESF Scholar Workshop Connections with leading employers in the Electronics sector, mentorship and networking opportunities.

UK Students and EU Students Satisfying the Residency Requirement

The Department of Computing has six competitive EPSRC DTP studentships available for suitably qualified students who also meet the EPSRC residency criteria starting in October 2026. More details for EU nationals on how Brexit affected residency criteria can be found on the UKCISA website.

A studentship covers home fees, a bursary of about £22,780 and £1,000 towards travel and equipment per annum for 3.5 years. We expect students to have completed, or expect to complete before October 2026, either a first class Masters MEng degree, or a first class Bachelors degree and distinction MSc, in an appropriate subject.

The competitions are open to all eligible candidates who otherwise do not have guaranteed funds and who have applied before the last departmental deadline. The allocation is usually made by the last two weeks of June. There is no need to formally apply, as we will automatically consider you if you meet the above criteria.

Apple Scholars is a program created to recognize the contributions of emerging leaders in computer science and engineering at the graduate and postgraduate level.The PhD fellowship in AI/ML was created as part of the Apple Scholars program to support the work of outstanding PhD students from around the world, who are pursuing cutting edge research in machine learning and artificial intelligence under the following themes:

The Department of Computing will award up to four doctoral teaching scholarships for PhD applicants starting in 2026/27. The period of the scholarship is four years six months.

For home fee and international students the scheme covers full fees and a full PhD scholarship of approximately £30,100 (reviewed annually) per annum in total. At least one doctoral teaching scholarship is made available to overseas students.

In addition to academic excellence, applicants should have a strong commitment to teaching in higher education. They will be expected to build up a portfolio comprising a wide variety of teaching experiences in the department, for example supporting the ongoing development of modules and their coursework exercises, as well as running tutorial and laboratory sessions. They will also have access to educational resources offered by the Graduate School and Educational Development Unit at Imperial.

It is expected that the teaching activities will be equivalent to approximately 15 months full-time spread over the time of the scholarship. Exposure to these teaching experiences will be foundational in developing an academic track-record for independently seeking post-doctoral employment in the higher education sector.

The shortlisting process is in three phases: first, the candidate must be accepted for a PhD in the Department of Computing with a named supervisor, following the normal application guidelines; second candidates holding a PhD offer should contact the Teaching Scholarship Coordinator (see below) and prepare a short teaching statement document (details provided at the point of application); third a shortlist of accepted candidates is made and shortlisted candidates will normally be invited for an interview (*). It is recommended that applicants apply by one of these two deadlines: February 15th or April 15th.

Eligibility: 

• Nominees must be nominated by a doctoral faculty member; students cannot nominate themselves.
• Nominees must be enrolled full-time in a PhD program over the two consecutive academic years of the award or forfeit the fellowship.
• Nominees should have three years remaining in their program at the time of nomination so the fellowship can be applied to the last two years of study.
• Nominees must stay in the same program for the duration of the award —no transferring of departments or schools.

A global program designed to encourage and support promising doctoral students who are engaged in innovative and relevant research in areas related to computer science and engineering at an accredited university.

Winners of the Fellowship are entitled to receive two years of paid tuition and fees, a $42,000 annual stipend to cover living and conference travel costs, a paid visit to Meta headquarters for the annual Fellowship Summit, and various opportunities to engage with Meta researchers.

Eligibility: 

• Applicants must be full-time PhD students who are enrolled in an accredited university (in any country) by the start of the Fellowship (i.e., Fall 2022)
• Students must be involved in ongoing research related to one or more relevant disciplines
• Students must remain enrolled full-time for the duration of the Fellowship
• Students should not apply for Meta Fellowships if they are actively being funded by Meta through some other sponsorship or collaboration and/or if they are actively being supervised (or co-supervised) by a Meta researcher.

The Microsoft Research PhD Fellowship is a global program that identifies and empowers the next generation of exceptional computing research talent. 

Eligibility:

• PhD students must be enrolled at a university in Europe

The NEC Student Research Fellowship Program provides grants for PhD and postdoctoral research in information and communication technology.

Eligibility: Full-time PhD students and postdoctoral researchers from accredited universities worldwide are eligible to apply. Candidates may only submit one proposal per funding cycle and will be evaluated based on a combination of factors including academic performance, software development skills and aptitude for research.

Each winning student receives a fellowship in the amount of $40,000 for the upcoming academic year and is assigned a Qualcomm researcher as a mentor to facilitate close collaboration and interaction with Qualcomm’s corporate research center.

The Qualcomm Innovation Fellowship is open to Imperial College London PhD students. Up to five (5) fellowships will be awarded to the students submitting the most innovative proposals. Each student
must be enrolled in the PhD program for the entire 2023-24 academic year and graduate no earlier than at the end of the Spring 2024 term.

The Government Office for Science offers UK Intelligence Community (IC) Postdoctoral Research Fellowships to outstanding early career science or engineering researchers. These Fellowships are designed to promote unclassified basic research in areas of interest to the intelligence, security and defence communities. The Centre for Protection of National Infrastructure, Department for Transport, Defence Science and Technology Laboratory, Home Office, the National Cyber Security Centre, and UK National Authority for Counter-Eavesdropping are among the organisations represented in the UK Intelligence Community for the Postdoctoral Research Fellowships.

Eligibility: Applicants must have a PhD, which was awarded no more than five years before the submission deadline. PhD students are eligible to apply, but must have been awarded their PhD (or the PhD has been unconditionally approved) before 01 August 2023 or the offer will be withdrawn.

Award: Funding capped at £200k

The UKRI Centre for Doctoral Training in Artificial Intelligence for Healthcare based at the  Department of Computing focusses on training AI PhDs and Clinical PhD Fellows in healthcare applications of core AI. The CDT offers fully funded studentships for regular PhDs and also clinical PhD fellows, typically starting every year in October. A studentship can provide support for at least 3 years. The studentship covers a tax-free stipend at standard UKRI rate, the tuition fees (Home/UK Fee level) including Writing-up fee in the fourth year. The stipend rates usually increase slightly each year in line with inflation rates. Our CDT students are strongly encouraged to participate in leading AI conferences to understand the state-of-the-art AI research and network with their global peers; this is normally also supported by the CDT funding, subject to approvals.
