Imperial launches major scholarship programme to students in the US

The scholarship is part of Imperial Inspires - a new funding initiative designed to support talented students pursuing undergraduate or postgraduate taught study at the university.

At least 300 scholarships worth £15,000 per year will be available to students from across the world joining Imperial from 2027, helping talented students from around the world access an Imperial education.

This new scholarship programme reflects Imperial's commitment to attracting outstanding students from around the world and ensuring that financial considerations do not prevent talented applicants from accessing a world-class education. 

Supporting future leaders 

Imperial Inspires aims to help students with the potential to make a positive impact in their chosen field. The scholarships will support students across a range of disciplines, including engineering, science, medicine and business.

The scholarship was launched in the United States at a special event for alumni in Boston with speaker Andrew Rees, an Imperial Chemistry graduate and now CEO of Crocs, Inc. In conversation with Nicole Kempton, Director of Alumni Engagement at Imperial, Andrew explored his remarkable career journey, the transformation of a global icon brand, and the leadership lessons learned along the way.

Professor Hugh Brady, President of Imperial College London said: “We aim to attract the brightest domestic and international talent to Imperial College London, regardless of financial resources or geographic barriers. 

“Recently, we launched the Imperial Inspires scholarship programme, targeting high-potential students. These scholarships will unlock potential in science, technology, engineering, mathematics and business, empowering brilliant individuals from around the world to shape a fulfilling career in science and tech and equipping them to take on the greatest challenges facing humanity.”

There are currently around 380 students from the US studying at Imperial, with almost 8,000 alumni in the US and a wide range of academic and industry partnerships with US institutions.  

Natalia Cantu is currently studying an MRes Neurotechnology at Imperial, following her bachelor's degree at Santa Clara University in California, where she studied English and Biology, and a fellowship at Stanford University. On studying at Imperial, she said: “The opportunity to immerse myself in a new culture while studying at a world-leading university made Imperial an easy choice. I’m grateful that this opportunity was able to become a reality and that I’ve been able to experience both the academic and personal growth that comes with studying abroad.”

“Imperial seemed a notch above other universities, not only for its global reputation, but also for the extensive and inspiring research taking place across the institution.” 

Kate Wexell studied MSc Climate Change, Management, & Finance at Imperial Business School, following a bachelor's degree at the University of Missouri-Columbia. Kate now works as a Researcher in the Centre for Climate Finance & Investment and said of her time studying at Imperial: “There are only a few courses in the world that focus on the intersection between climate change and financial modelling which made this Master's at Imperial the perfect next step of my career.” 

“Imperial helped me secure an internship with a startup in London run by an Imperial alumnus. The founders reached out to my course cohort directly because they knew the capability of Imperial students.” 

The Imperial Inspires scholarships programme builds on our proud history of supporting students from the UK and across the world to access an Imperial education.
