FILM and Margaret Turner Warwick
Facility for Imaging by Light Microscopy (FILM)
Our facility uses the latest equipment in light microscopy to observe life as it happens, visualising it in still images or live films. The end products are visually impressive and of cutting-edge scientific value; and are often at the very least quite beautiful.
Whether you are a hard-core microscopist looking for the most sophisticated equipment, allowing you to push the limits of scientific imaging, or a student or life scientist who has never touched a microscope before, you will find the right tools and guidance to get the results that you need.
FACS and Histology
St Mary's Flow Cytometry Core Facility (FACS)
The St. Mary’s FACS Core Facility is housed on the 3rd floor in the Medical School building. The facility is open to everyone and provides access to high-end FACS analysers, teaching and training, performs a dedicated Cat2 cell sorting service, and houses a MSD and a Luminex200 cytokine and protein analysis platform.
The cell sorting service usually operates during weekdays but we try to accommodate a certain flexibility in terms of start and end time.
Research Histology Facility
The Research Histology Facility is housed within the IRD section and run by a Registered Biomedical Scientist with 25 years experience in histology. It provides facilities offering paraffin wax processing, sectioning, special staining, and also an immunohistochemistry optimisation service. Advice and training in most histology techniques can be provided.
Additionally, it is possible to hire histology equipment and training is provided so users can prepare, freeze and section their own material sections themselves.
