AB - Proteins perform most biological functions and constitute the main drug targets. Proteomics can reveal information that cannot be obtained at the genetic level. Recent advances in proteomics are linked to the rapid development of mass spectrometry technology, and novel methodologies have enabled the study of proteins at an unprecedented scale. This chapter outlines a typical proteomics workflow, followed by a comparison of mass spectrometry techniques for protein discovery and quantification. The application of proteomics in cardiovascular research is illustrated through specific examples.
