Reopening our facilities
Getting moving again
We've missed you.
And we're now working hard on a comprehensive reopening plan in line with government guidance so that we can all get moving again.
Because all of our facilities are different, this will be done in a phased manner and with bespoke plans for each. This page outlines the reopening plans for each facility, as well as the adaptations we'll be bringing in to ensure everyone is safe and comfortable.
South Kensington - Ethos
So that we can carefully manage our reopening, we'll be phasing in different parts of Ethos on different dates:
- From Monday 7 September, the gym space will reopen
- From Wednesday 9 September, the swimming pool will reopen
- From Monday 14 September, classes will resume and the sports hall will reopen
Our video outlines what to expect when you return to Ethos for the first time:
We know that everyone has experienced innumerable changes in the last few months and we are having to make a number of adaptations to how Ethos operates once we reopen. This will include:
What changes will be made in Ethos?
We'll need to carefully manage how many people are using Ethos at any one time. This means that you'll have to pre-book a timed slot when you want to visit, including for all classes, gym sessions, sports hall bookings and pool use - you won't be able to enter the building without a booking. This also means it's more important than ever that you check-in to any classes as you arrive. All bookings will be made using our regular booking website
Some equipment will be taken out of action and you'll see screen dividers in certain places - we ask that you ensure you keep 2m apart from other users and our staff at all times.
You'll see one-way systems in certain areas so that it is easier to social distance. We ask that you carefully follow these systems when moving through Ethos.
What changes will be made in Ethos?
Due to their size, most changing facilities will be unable to support social distancing. There will be no access to dry changing rooms, showers or lockers when we reopen. We ask that you change prior to arriving and use one of the communal facilities available across campus. We'll have some storage for individual bags, but this will be limited. Wet changing rooms will be available for those with pool bookings; there will be a limited number of lockers and social distancing measures will be in place.
So that our entire community has a wide range of times to access the gym during periods of reduced capacity, we will be temporarily stopping staff-only times. We'll be reviewing this on a regular basis and will let you know when staff-only times can resume.
We'll be sanitising equipment throughout the day and implementing an enhanced cleaning scheduled throughout the centre. You'll also see hand sanitizer stations throughout the building - please use these whenever you enter or exit the gym, class, pool or sports hall.
Classes will also be smaller and will be run less frequently - you can find an updated timetable at the Ethos website. Certain services will also remain closed for a while longer. Our SW7 programme will be temporarily paused to allow the functional gym space to be used by all users whilst the sauna and steam rooms will remain closed until further notice.
Harlington Sports Ground & Putney Boathouse
We also anticipate being able to reopen Harlington and Putney Boathouse from Monday 7 September, with certain safety adaptations.
Hammersmith, Charing Cross & Silwood Park
We are currently awaiting further guidance from the government on when our facilities at Hammersmith, Charing Cross and Silwood Park will be able to reopen. We hope to have these open as soon as possible but, as these facilities are unsupervised, they present additional challenges in ensuring your safety and convenience.
All other facilities will remain closed until further notice. Further updates will be published on our website and communicated directly to members.
