All students are required to be enrolled on their course and must enrol online on My Imperial.
Imperial has a legal requirement to the UK government to conduct a Right to Study check on all non-UK/Irish nationals studying at the University. If you are a non-UK or Irish national, you will need to upload evidence of your permission to be in the UK before you can complete the online enrolment process.
enrolment
- Student Visa Holders
- Evidence of date of entry
- If you have valid permission to be in the UK in another UK visa category, including EU Settlement Scheme
- Students on a course for 6 months or less
- Students making a Student Visa application in the UK
You will be granted Digital Immigration Status (an eVisa) once your application is approved.
The letter or email you received from UKVI will include details of your immigration permission. To prove your immigration status, you must generate a share code. This allows us to check and verify your status.
Find out how to access your digital status and generate a share code. Please choose the purpose of the check as ‘other / something else’. Do not choose 'work' or 'rent' as we will not be able to verify your right to study and you will not be able to complete the online enrolment.
Once you have your code, you must enter the share code details in the My Visa section of My Imperial. Put the share code reference as your visa number. Please enter the start and end date on My Imperial as it appears when you view your status. Please attach a PDF of your share code.
Staff at Imperial will check and verify your eVisa and will then clear you to complete your online enrolment. Please be patient whilst this process happens as we have lots of records to check. You just need to complete your enrolment prior to your course start date.
You must keep evidence of your date of entry to the UK. This can be a stamped entry clearance vignette (sticker) in your passport, boarding pass, flight ticket or booking confirmation. You must provide this to the Visa Compliance team. We will send you an email asking for this once your immigration status has been verified.
If you enter the UK before the start date of your visa then you will be entering as a visitor and you will not be permitted start studying. You will need to leave the UK and the Common Travel Area and re-enter on or after the start date of your digital status.
Please upload a copy of your current passport to your My Imperial record.
You will need to upload a copy of your current visa to the My Visa section of My Imperial so this can be checked. Most UK immigration permission should now be digital only (an eVisa). Find out how to access your digital status and generate a share code. Please choose the purpose of the check as ‘other / something else’. Do not choose 'work' or 'rent'.
Once you have your code, you must enter the share code details in the My Visa section of My Imperial. Select your visa type or select ‘other’ if it is not covered.
You must ensure you keep My Imperial up to date if any of your visa circumstances change i.e. if you switch to another UK visa category.
If you are coming to the UK on Visitor permission in order to study a short course, as an exchange student, for a short period of research or for a face-to-face element of a distance learning programme how you obtain your visitor permission depends on your nationality. Please refer to the Immigration Rules to check if your nationality means you a visa national.
Please upload a copy of your current passport to your My Imperial record.
Visa nationals: you will be granted a visitor visa on a sticker (vignette) into your passport. Please ensure you upload a copy of your vignette to the My Visa tile on My Imperial. You will need to select the visa type as “Short-Term Other”. In the visa number field, please enter the visa number which is on the top right hand corner of the vignette along with the start date and end date as it appears on the vignette.
Non-visa nationals: You will need to upload a copy of your boarding pass or travel ticket to the UK to the My Imperial Visa Tile. You will need to select the visa type as “Short-Term Other”. In the visa number field, please enter either “boarding pass” or “travel ticket”. The start date is the date you enter the UK and the end date is +6 months from the arrival date. Then attach a copy of your boarding pass or travel ticket.
Staff at Imperial will check and verify your visa record and will then clear you to complete your online enrolment. Please be patient whilst this process happens as we have lots of records to check. You just need to complete your enrolment prior to your course start date.
If you already hold immigration permission for the Uk that permits you to study (such as a Student Visa, Skilled Worker Visa or Dependant Visa) and your current visa expires no earlier than 28 days before your new course start date, you can submit a new visa application in the UK, complete your enrolment and start studying on the basis of your submitted visa application.
In order to complete enrolment you will need to:
- Have submitted the new visa application in the UK prior to your new course start date
- Send a copy of your submitted visa application form (in full) to the International Student Support team with your CID number and we will check and clear you to enrol
It is actually easier to apply IN the UK if you have been a student here already. If you were in the UK for at least 12 months as a student you do not have to meet a financial requirement at all.
See our guidance for more information.
Please note: if you currently hold a Graduate Visa, you cannot enrol on the basis of a pending Student Visa application, as study is not permitted on Graduate permission. Therefore, you will need your new Student Visa issued before you can enrol.
