Bridget was called to the Bar in 1997 and after a short period practising criminal defence joined the Government Legal Service (GLS) in 2000. Bridget’s early career in the GLS involved working in the developing area of Proceeds of Crime at HM Customs & Excise, and in regulatory and competition law at Ofgem. In 2004 Bridget joined the Ministry of Defence gaining experience in legislative drafting, constitutional, public and international humanitarian law.
Following promotion to the Senior Civil Service, Bridget then led teams covering pensions and employment law, and then the main general advisory team that advised on some 40 substantive areas of law across all aspects of the MoD’s areas of operation. In 2018 Bridget Left the MoD to join the University of Sussex as its first General Counsel. At Sussex Bridget established the first in-house legal team and also became Director of Governance & Compliance, leading teams that managed governance, Health & Safety, information management and compliance, risk & resilience, as well as holding a variety of institutional positions (Prevent lead, UKVI authorising officer, SIRO, etc).
Bridget Joined Imperial in September 2022 and now leads the Division of the University Secretary that comprises of Legal and Regulatory Affairs, Institutional Compliance and Risk Management, University Governance, and Research Integrity Investigations.
