Centre Directors - Professor Manuel Mayr & Professor Costanza Emanueli

Professor Manuel Mayr and Professor Costanza Emanueli are both co-directors of the newly awarded Imperial BHF Centre of Research Excellence. This new BHF Centre was renewed in 2024 for an additional 5 years with 5 million of funding awarded.

Professor Manuel Mayr is a British Heart Foundation (BHF) Professor for Cardiovascular Proteomics. Professor Mayr’s team uses proteomics in combination with other -omics technologies to integrate biological information in disease-specific networks that drive pathophysiological changes. While studying molecular interactions has been a research focus for many years and has provided important insight into biology, the attention has now shifted towards a more integrative network biology approach (Nat Rev Cardiol. 2021;18(5):313-330).

Professor Costanza Emanueli, a current British Heart Foundation Chair in Cardiovascular Science at the Imperial College. Professor Emanueli’s team develops fundamental and transnational research focusing on ischaemic disease, cardiac remodelling and diabetes cardiovascular complications. They investigate the molecular causes underpinning cardiovascular disease with the aim to develop novel approaches of protection and repair.
