Industry Partnership and Engagement

Research Collaboration

Our department is comprised of 54 academic staff members who specialize in diverse research areas within bioengineering and biomedical engineering.

Our expertise spans a broad spectrum, including the engineering of Orthopaedics and the musculoskeletal system, AI and Robotics, Biomechanics, Computational and Theoretical Modeling, Biomaterials, Diagnostics, Biological Imaging, Microfluidics and Organ-on-Chip, Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine, Sensing Systems, Neurotechnology, and more.

Our research pages give a comprehensive picture of our work. We have a successful track record of collaborations with various companies worldwide.

We also have extensive experience in supporting industry-led research as co-applicants through externally funded schemes such as Innovate UK. This leverages our technical, management, and facilities expertise.

Industry-sponsored Group Project

The third-year group projects in Bioengineering are sponsored by industry partners.

In these projects, students will form groups of 5 to 7 members to work on ideas presented by the industry partners. We would provide project-relevant academic advisors, access to the laboratory, and technician support.

This is an ideal point for industry to engage with our students. Year 3 students are imminently entering the job market. We have had students enter internships the summer immediately following the project and obtain offers of full-time positions a year later.

This is also an excellent way to engage with our world-leading academics. Each project will be supervised by an academic from our department and will have access to their laboratory. Many of these projects have led to follow-on student projects and larger research contracts and centres of excellence.

We have had projects sponsored by Meta, P&G, Convatec, and more.
