Research

As design engineers, we create solutions to complex societal challenges. This requires not only developing innovative products such as future transport technologies, hearing aids, and intelligent robots, but redesigning real-world industrial processes, business models, and sociotechnical systems. To master the complex ways in which human behaviours and technical processes interact, we combine engineering analysis with behavioural, legal and ethical insights together with creative practices from the arts and humanities.

This approach underpins all of our research and education at the Dyson School of Design Engineering. Our academics and researchers use our unique interdisciplinary environment to cross-fertilise thinking from the sciences, arts, and humanities. They also work across the traditional boundaries that separate academia from policymaking and industrial R&D.
