London Girls Maths Outreach Event

The Department of Mathematics in Imperial College London hosted the ‘London Girls Maths Outreach Event’ on Wednesday 27th February 2019.

The event was mainly aimed for girls who are:

  • Studying in Year 10 & 11 and Gifted and Talented in Mathematics 
  • Studying in Year 12 and planning to study Mathematics at University

The Itinerary:
1.20 to 1.30 – Welcome and Networking
1.30 to 2.00– Academic talk by Dr Marina Evangelou
2.00 to 2.30 - PhD students – Women in Science
2.30 to 3.30 – Problem Solving – Maths Challenge & Refreshments
3.30 to 4.15 – University maths and application process & Current Student Panel with Q&A
4.15 - Campus Tour (tours to last around 35-45 minutes, students are free to leave after this)

The purpose of this event is to provide an insight to the world of Mathematics, providing the students with the ways in which it can be applied to real life situations and to inspire young women to aspire to study Mathematics at University.

Imperial Lates - XMaths

In December 2018, the Mathematics Department opened its doors to the public to to celebrate all things mathematical in an Imperial Lates event. Visitors were able to listen to scientists explaining their research as well as get personally involved in a variety of activities. Read more about the public event here.

Imperial Lates events invite the public to learn and engage with the exciting research that is happening across the College. By celebrating science through the creativity and passion of Imperial academics, they aim to provide a platform for the researchers to engage with the broader community.
