ECRI Masterclasses for Radiographers
Working with Imperial's Early Career Research Institute (ECRI), RadResearch is delight to announce a series of five online masterclasses showcasing skills and knowledge that radiographers can use to forge a career in research. These small-group interactive sessions will be taking place between March and June 2026 and are open to radiographers from all over the country.

Applying for grants is one of the most important, exciting, challenging and essential aspects in the career of a researcher. However, the research funding environment in the UK can, at first, appear quite complex and may be a little daunting if you have not previously applied for funding. In this blended course you will discover how, where and when to search for funding. It will include how to prepare, write, and present an effective grant application. You will learn about the funding panels’ expectations and requirements to help guide you in what to include in the application.
A short piece of pre-course work will be circulated to attendees after they have registered.
Learning outcomes:
- Intro to UK funding – travel and small grant applications
- Be aware of the key funders of research in the UK
- Identify the importance of grant writing in a research career.
- Recognise the different types and sources of grants.
- Develop and employ the best approach/strategy to successful grant writing.
- Help you to decide what to include and exclude in an application.
- Understand how a panel or referee will assess your grant application

This blended learning course is suited for anyone in the first stages of planning research or a research degree. The session will discuss the effect of moving into research from the workplace. We will explore what is expected of you as a researcher and how to manage a programme of research, including how to get the most from research meetings.
Learning outcomes will include:
- Identify and clarify your and your supervisors’ expectations.
- Recognise culture shock for you and others entering into research.
- Employ effective techniques for research meetings.
- Develop a planning strategy for your research.
- Evaluate your sources of feedback and support mechanisms.

This interactive workshop is designed to help those considering research take control of their career development. Through guided reflection, practical exercises, and peer discussion, you will:

Suitable for - pre-doctoral radiographers thinking about beginning doctoral study

This course introduces researchers to the process of preparing a fellowship application. During the session, you will learn where to look for appropriate fellowship funding, what to keep in mind while applying, what reviewers are looking for, and how to prepare a written application considering all the sections required.

- Understand what a fellowship is
- Identify where to look for funding opportunities
- Interpret the key requirements for fellowship applications
- Think about the structure of an application and how to make the most of the space available

Suitable for - radiographers preparing for a pre-doc or doctoral application

During fellowship applications you will have to articulate your career journey, your research ambitions and your skills in different formats and for different audiences (collaborators, supervisors, funders). This course aims to strengthen your ability to promote yourself and your research ambitions in a narrative format to colleagues, collaborators, potential supervisors, and funders.
- Interpret what a narrative CV is and how funding bodies are using it for applications.
- Identify the sections of a Narrative CV and what is expected for each of them.
- Recognise the basics in crafting a narrative, where to begin and what to consider.
- Understand where to go for more support
