Mairead is a therapeutic radiographer and CRUK RADNET-funded Postdoctoral Research Associate in the Advanced Radiotherapy Group at the University of Manchester. She completed a BSc (Hons) Radiotherapy at the University of Liverpool and worked at University College London Hospitals in various clinical and specialist therapeutic radiographer roles for almost ten years. These roles spanned the entire patient pathway, from pre-treatment to specialist head & neck and hepatobiliary research and development roles.

She completed her PhD in 2024 at the University of Manchester, evaluating motion management strategies for abdominal stereotactic radiotherapy. During this time, she was part of pancreas SABR implementation on the MR Linac, including devising a training programme for skills for radiographer-led online adaptive radiotherapy, about which she is very passionate.

Mairead has published a number of peer-reviewed articles, presented at international conferences, and is on the abstract review panel for both the ESTRO and Elekta MR Linac Consortium annual meetings. She sits on numerous committees including the European Society for Radiotherapy & Oncology (ESTRO) Upper GI Focus Group, contributing leadership and strategy. In 2025, she was named the Society and College of Radiographers Editorial Fellow at Radiography journal, where she is expanding her knowledge of the publication world.

Her current research interests include MR-guided radiotherapy, deformable registration-based dose accumulation, and respiratory motion management. Mairead's other interests include global radiotherapy access, education and radiographer-led research and radiographer role development.
