Professor Karen Knapp is Head of the Department of Health and Care Professions and Professor of Musculoskeletal Imaging at the University of Exeter. Her interest in osteoporosis began during her first role as a Nuclear Medicine Radiographer, leading to a PhD at King’s College London with internationally renowned research groups in osteoporosis and twin studies at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospitals.

Following her post-doctoral work, she developed her teaching expertise with medical students before joining the University of Exeter as a lecturer in 2004. Her research portfolio has since expanded to include the development and evaluation of emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, alongside her continued work in musculoskeletal imaging and clinical research.
